Commissioned for the City of Dallas’ permanent Public Art Collection, The Offering is a stand-alone sculptural mural wall painted on all visible sides.
On one side of the wall, a young Latino man in a military uniform looks outward. On the reverse, a mother figure extends her hands in an offering gesture. From her hands, a dove takes flight, wrapping around the edge of the wall so that part of its wing crosses onto the young man’s side.
Together, the two sides form a single story. The gesture reflects a reality familiar to many immigrant families: a mother offering her child forward into the life of a new country. The dove carries that offering across the wall—an expression of hope, faith, and love released into an uncertain future.
More broadly, the work honors the enduring strength of mothers and the dignified sacrifice that often accompanies the act of letting a child step into the world.
